What to do Ilocos Norte?
We started our journey from Manila and rode a plane to Laoag, Ilocos Norte via Cebu Pacific. When we arrived around 1PM, I was amused of how small their airport was. But they still manage to have a Duty Free store. We were thankful because the tourism office there offers a free shuttle service going to the terminal where we can ride a bus going closer to our destination. Given the limited time we’ve got, we prioritize to visit the 2 must-see tourist spots in Ilocos Norte.
Bangui Windmills
Of course, to see its ever famous WINDMILLS is mandatory. Located almost at the tip of North Luzon, situated the huge wind turbines facing directly to South China Sea. I can still remember, I was clapping my hands like a child during my first glance of the windmills from afar while the bus is still moving. The photograph from my textbook back in school came to life. I was so amazed!!!
So this is where the tourism bus drop us off. Then we rode a regular bus going to Pagudpud. Stopped at Bangui and rode a tricycle going to the Windmills. As we drove, we passed by the famous Sinking Bell Tower. It was really a head-turner must-see spot in Laoag.
It was a gloomy afternoon when we arrived. But I WAS SO HAPPY!!!!!!! Finally, we met. They were so huge and noisy. They’re beautiful. So beautiful.

So if you haven’t visited here yet, I strongly advice to go here in the morning, while the sun is still up. And I hope in your visit, the skull in the view deck is already gone 😉
That’s pretty much the things we prioritized to see in Laoag given the limited time we had. How about our transportation? Well, after the public bus ride, we chartered a tricycle to go around Laoag. It was (roughly) a 5-hour visit. Yes, it was obviously short but it was all worth it. And the good thing is, I still have many reasons to visit Laoag again. We headed to Vigan after that.
